DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Elementary students in the West De Pere School District will have the option of wearing masks beginning next month.
In a decision announced Thursday, the district says it will transition to optional masking for grades 4K-6 on Dec. 17. The transition applies to students at 4K sites, students who attend Westwood and Hemlock Creek elementary schools and students who attend the district’s Intermediate School.
The district also set guidelines for a return to masking based on the following potential circumstances:
If there are three or more COVID-19 cases in a classroom, masks will be required for everyone in the classroom for two weeks.
If the virus spreads to three or more classrooms, masks will be required for everyone in the school for two weeks.
If the school’s positive test percentage meets or exceeds 2.5% based on a 10-day rolling average, masks will be required for two weeks.
While masks are optional for grades 7-12, they will be required for two weeks if the school’s positive test percentage also meets or exceeds 2.5% based on a 10-day rolling average.
