GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Aaron Rodgers comments around the COVID-19 vaccine have cost him money.
Prevea Health dropped their partnership with Rodgers after he told reporters earlier this year he was “immunized” against COVID-19 when asked if he was vaccinated.
Rodgers, who tested positive for COVID-19 last week, was not vaccinated.
Other companies with an endorsement deal in place with the reigning MVP Quarterback are staying quiet.
Phil Clampitt of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay isn’t surprised by this.
“They’re probably weighing the odds and seeing how people are responding,” said Clampitt.
Rodgers appeared on the Pat McAfee show Tuesday, saying he understood that some found his comments misleading.
“To anybody who felt misled by those comments, I take full responsibility for those comments,” said Rodgers.
State Farm has opted to stick with Rodgers, adding that while they don’t agree with his comments, he has a right to his opinion. However, State Farm showed far fewer commercials starring Rodgers last week.
Apex Marketing is a Michigan based analytics company. It found Rodgers was featured in just 1.5% of about 400 State Farm commercials.
“He’s a three time MVP. I mean, you don’t get too many of those around the world, so there’s a lot of upside. He’s got a rough go here to figure out his own direction,” said Clampitt.
Rodgers also has endorsements with Bergstrom, Adidas, and TaylorMade, none of which have made any comment.
