GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Thanksgiving is just weeks away, and local food pantries are gearing up for an expected uptick in families coming in for help.
At Paul’s Pantry in Green Bay, they’re currently serving over 100 households per day, five days a week. Executive Director Craig Robbins expects that to rise as the month goes on.
“That’s a lot of food going out. We’re distributing about 12,000 pounds of food per day…We can kind of feel it building. We’re getting busier, day by day,” Robbins told WTAQ News. “Traditionally, we’d be seeing right around that 200 household per day mark for Thanksgiving. You can feel it slowly building, but we’re ready for it.”
As for sourcing the turkeys and other holiday food, Robbins says they got ahead of the current supply chain issues by purchasing things back as far as February.
But donations are always accepted.
“We always rely on the generosity of our community for everything – food, funds, and volunteers,” Robbins said. “Anything that you would put on your Thanksgiving Day table or your holiday table, we could use here for other households and other families in the area.”
