RACINE , WI (WRN) — The Racine County Sheriff’s Department accuses the Wisconsin Elections Commission of breaking the law during the 2020 elections, by suspending a requirement to send special voting deputies to assist nursing home residents.
That allowed employees to assist elderly residents in voting. Racine County Sergeant Michael Luell says six family members of residents at a Racine care facility told investigators they had concerns.
“You know you don’t need a PHD to vote,” he said. “But these loved ones believe their loved ones had such cognitive difficulties that they would not have had the ability to request a ballot and exercise their right to vote.”
State Elections Administrator Meagan Wolfe said last year’s discussion about Special Voting Deputy access during the COVID-19 pandemic occurred entirely in public meetings. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos is calling for Wolfe’s resignation.
