FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man and his baby who were missing overnight have been found in Fond du Lac.
Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says Jordan Smack, 24, and his 4-month-old daughter, Serenity, were found at a residence in the city on Friday.
The two had been missing since Thursday night. Around 10:30 p.m., they were in a vehicle being driven by a friend of Smack’s. The vehicle went into a ditch on Brown Road in Lamartine. Smack got out of the vehicle and walked away with his daughter in her car seat. While the driver eventually got the vehicle out of the ditch, she lost sight of Smack and could not reach him.
The driver did not report the two missing until about 2:30 a.m.
Around 100 law enforcement officials and firefighters were involved in the search for the Smacks, which included both aerial and ground operations. Their search began around 7:45 a.m. and lasted for more than three hours.
Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says there are many unanswered questions, including why Jordan Smack walked away with his daughter and how they got to the home. It’s also unknown whether Smack knew anyone who lived at the residence.
Jordan and Serenity Smack were taken to the hospital to be checked out, but Waldschmidt said they appeared to be unharmed.
