(WNFL) – It was an unexpected ending for the UW-Oshkosh Titans men’s basketball team on Saturday as they lost to North Central College 84-82 in overtime in the NCAA Division III second-round tournament game.
A layup by the Titans’ Jack Flynn tied the game 73-73 with two seconds left and set up the overtime.
In overtime, each time North Central took the lead, UW-Oshkosh would tie it up. The last time on a pair of Will Mahoney free throws with 43 seconds left.
North Central got its own rebound of a missed shot with 12 seconds left, called a timeout and set up their final play. That turned out to be a layup by Michael Pollack with three seconds to play.
Jack Flynn led UW-O with 23 points. Eddie Muench and Levi Borchardt both added 15 while Adam Fravert added 12.
In two other NCAA Division III tournament games involving state schools, St. John’s of Minesota defeated UW-Eau Claire 78-69 and St. Thomas of Minnesota defeated UW-Platteville 73-70.
Both were NCAA Division III second-round games.
In Eau Claire’s loss, the Blugolds led at hafltime but fell behind in the second half by seven with St. John’s holding off UW-EC with free throws down the stretch.
Eau Claire finished its season 20-10.
UW-Platteville finished its season with a 23-5 record after falling to fourth-ranked St.Thomas.
A pair of Nels Anders free throws with 10 seconds left clinched the game for St. Thomas.
