GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Everything from Green Bay’s city council meetings to back and forth on Capitol Hill is on the radar, as politicians start early to sway voters ahead of 2022 elections.
“Republicans in our state Legislature have created a sham investigation lead by someone who just announced he doesn’t have any understanding of how elections work in Wisconsin,” Said Ben Wikler.
Chair of Wisconsin’s Democratic Party, Wikler points to former state Supreme Court justice Michael Gableman as he leads an investigation into 2020’s elections.
Wikler says Democrats will be zoning in on election integrity in 2022, trying to maximize on partisan efforts, while pushing access to the ballot.
“We think it’s bad politics for them,” Wikler said of GOP lawmakers who approved funding for the investigation. “We’re going to fight for that right for everyone. Regardless of what you look like.”
“With former justice Gableman leading this investigation into last year’s election, do you think that will hurt republican strategy going into next year?” asked FOX 11.
“I think people appreciate transparency in all functions of government and that includes how our elections are run,” said Mark Jefferson. “Let’s not forget that Democrats didn’t accept George W. Bush’s election in 2001 for quite some time.”
Wisconsin Republican party executive director, Jefferson says when it comes to winning votes off of democratic missteps:
“Our top priority is going to be the economy and jobs and getting the economy moving again, followed closely by making up for lost time in our education system.”
Meanwhile Wikler speaks on the impact of national politics such as vaccine mandates, and what it means for winning Wisconsin elections.
“The first thing I’ll say is most adults have now been vaccinated,” Wikler says. ” And I don’t know about you or your viewers but as someone who’s vaccinated I would like to speed up ending this pandemic by getting the safe and effective vaccine as soon as possible.”
