GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A teen who was driving dunk, resulting in a crash which landed a passenger in the Fox River, was sentenced Monday to 45 days in jail.
Ayne Valle-Nunez, 18, was previously convicted of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle for the May 25, 2020, crash. She was also placed on probation for three years, and her driver’s license was revoked for two years.
Before the sentence was issued, Valle-Nunez apologized, saying she was naïve and made bad decisions.
According to the criminal complaint, one of the injured passengers told police several people were at a friend’s house drinking from about 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. They left, picked up a friend, and drove to the Fox River to watch the sunrise. They stayed about an hour, finished a bottle of tequila, and when they left, Valle-Nunez lost control of the vehicle while on the Nitschke Main Street Bridge.
Two passengers were ejected. One landed on the bridge, while another landed in the Fox River and was rescued.
At the hospital, “Anye stated she had been drinking. She stated she had been drinking approximately 2 shots of tequila, a couple of shots, and then later 2 shots,” the complaint states.
Valle-Nunez was 17 at the time of the crash. In Wisconsin, those ages 17 and older are charged in adult court.
