GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Hundreds will scale the equivalent of over 100 floors of stairs on Saturday at Lambeau Field.
It’s the 9th year for the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. Green Bay Metro Fire Lt. Shauna Walesh says the climb route is meaningful.
“The route is one full lap of the Lambeau Field steps, inside the bowl,” says Walesh. “And that will represent the 110 floors of the World Trade Center.”
The climbers will go up in groups of 343. That number, too, is meaningful.
“When you sign up, you get a tag with one of the 343 first responders who died on 9/11,” Walesh told WTAQ. “And then you climb those stairs.”
On the station for the 78th floor, each climber will ring a bell in memory of the first responder they represent.
“There will be some people who will wear weight vests or even full firefighter gear,” Walesh said. “The reason they do that is to get what those firefighters 20 years ago felt.”
Those interested can sign up online or on-site starting at 8am on Saturday.
The event is a joint effort between the Green Bay Metro Fire Department and Pierce Manufacturing.
