BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A former candidate for Outagamie County sheriff has been indicted for possession on child pornography — while he was appealing a previous child porn conviction.
Federal prosecutors say they found the child porn during a search of Alex Bebris’ Denmark home last month.
Bebris was sentenced last year to five years in prison on a previous conviction. He was allowed to remain free while he appealed. In July, his appeal was rejected and he was ordered to report to prison.
If convicted on the new charges, Bebris faces a mandatory minimum 10 years and up to 30 years in prison. He would be required to serve that sentence after finishing his five-year term in the previous case.
Bebris lost the 2018 Republican primary election for Outagamie County sheriff to eventual winner Clint Kriewaldt. Bebris previously served as public safety chief in Oakwood, Ohio.
