OCONTO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Christopher Halase pleaded no contest Tuesday to accidentally shooting and killing his sister.
Halase, 30, will be sentenced Nov. 10 on a count of homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon. Charges of second-degree reckless homicide and operating a fireman while under the influence of a controlled substance were dropped, court records show.
The incident happened Aug. 21, 2020. According to the criminal complaint, a variety of family members were gathered at the town of Doty of home. After returning from a bar, Halase went outside to shoot his guns. Returning to the house, the victim was seated on a bed, and the gun went off. One witness suggested Halase was cleaning his gun.
The victim, only identified by her initials, was shot in the neck.
