GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Gas prices are the highest they’ve been on Labor Day weekend since 2014. While some gas stations are as low as $2.81 in northeast Wisconsin, others are almost at $2.95.
AAA reports that in Brown County, the average is $2.94.
Even so, Becky Schouten has had enough.
“I just hope they stop and I hope they go back down, cause it is very ridiculous.”
Schouten works for Clarity Care and fears the caregiver company will have to give out even more gas cards to its employees.
It doesn’t help that she drives a big bus.
“It is $50, maybe every two or three weeks. So, we’re putting a lot of gas in here every month. We put at least $200 of gas a month.”
Schouten isn’t the only one who wants the prices to stop rising. Larry Lewis will be driving to Chicago next weekend.
“I think that prices are just a little too high.”
Lewis said he is fortunate he isn’t going this weekend, and hopes prices drop soon.
“We’ll probably spend $30 to $40 getting down there, one way. $30 to $40 maybe more coming back. But I think we’ll pay less than $100 for 2 or 3 days.”
One couple from Minnesota came to Green Bay for the weekend and say prices here are a lot cheaper than the $3.10 they pay at home.
AAA says that there is an ample supply of gas in the United States, and any constriction is due to fuel trucks trying to find open roads from southern states impacted by Hurricane Ida.
