GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Packers Hall of Fame welcomed a pair of Pro Bowl cornerbacks into its elite group Thursday night.
Charles Woodson and Al Harris make up the 50th class to be enshrined.
When Woodson signed with the Packers in 2006, he says his position coach told him there was no way Harris was going to let him outwork him.
“Me and Al look at each other and he’d say hey we working today?” said Woodson. “I’d be like let’s work today. What that meant was the young guys weren’t getting any reps. It was going to be all me and Al.”
The two pushed each other in practice, paving the way for individual and team success on the field, and now spots in the Packers Hall of Fame.
“It all just clicked,” said Woodson. “We didn’t have to force anything. Everything was genuine.”
Woodson and Harris each played seven years in Green Bay, four of those seasons together.
The pairing can’t be compared, according to trainer Bryan Engel, who has been with the Packers 25 years and presented Woodson into the hall.
“I think pound for pound, the toughest two players that I’ve ever came across in the National Football League.”
One other thing the players have in common is their stints in Titletown ended before they wanted them to.
“That was the thing that stung,” said Woodson. “When I got the letter and the Packers told me that I could no longer compete at that position, really? Wow. You know what I mean? That was a gut punch.”
Both went on to reach personal career goals with other teams and they say no hard feelings exist.
“I tell my wife all the time, I could live in Green Bay,” said Harris. “She says oh my goodness, it’s so cold.”
“I think about it all the time,” said Woodson. “This was a great seven years.”
The Packers Hall of Fame now has 164 members.
Earlier this year, Woodson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He is the 27th representative of the Packers to achieve that honor.
