OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — UW-Oshkosh has joined other Wisconsin universities and colleges requiring face masks amid a rise in new COVID-19 cases.
The university says masks will be required on its campuses for all students, faculty, staff and guests, regardless of vaccination status. The requirement begins Tuesday.
“This is not a decision we wanted to make, but at this time we believe it is needed to protect the health and safety of our campuses,” UWO chancellor Andrew Leavitt said in a news release.
Masks must be worn at all times in:
- Hallways, public spaces, common areas and classrooms
- Shared offices, shops, conference rooms and lab spaces
- University vehicles when traveling with more than one person
Masks are not required:
- While working alone in an office or lab with the door closed
- Outdoors
- While eating or drinking in Reeve Union, Blackhawk Commons and other common food areas
- For residence hall students in their own room
UWO says its decision does not impact its policies or plans for in-person classes, return to work on campus, events and physical distancing. More information on the university’s COVID-19-related plans and the fall semester can be found online on the Titans Return webpage.
