WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man who told police he was planning to shop at a grocery store that had been closed for more than an hour when he pulled into the lot was arrested on suspicion of his 12th drunk driving offense.
Gregg Scotto, 59, of Clintonville, was arrested July 16 after he made a left turn into a parking lot without using a turn signal. A check showed the registered owner had a revoked driver’s license.
Noting Scotto had taken up multiple parking spots in the lot, the officer talk to Scotto. Scotto said he planned to do some shopping, although store had been closed for about 1.5 hours.
“The reports indicate that Scotto was losing his balance and appeared as if he might fall as he spoke to the Officer. His speech was slurred and he admitted drinking prior to driving,” the complaint states. “Scotto was not asked to perform the Walk and Turn Test or the One Leg Stand due to the safety concern that he could fall and hurt himself. Scotto told Officer Kizewski that he would fail preliminary breath test.”
No breath test or blood test results are cited in the complaint, however.
Scotto is being held on a $20,000 cash bond. A balance of initial appearance is scheduled for Aug. 10.
If convicted, Scotto faces a minimum sentence of four years in prison, with a maximum of 15 years,
According to the criminal complaint, he has previous convictions for drunk driving-related incidents on these dates:
