MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Bucks fans old and young alike are basking in the glory of the NBA championship.
Chase is a young child, but his opinion on the Milwaukee Bucks couldn’t be clearer. He was drawing a big Sun on the ground in chalk. That Sun–representing the Phoenix Suns, was crying.
Why?
“The Bucks won, and the Suns lost,” said the boy.
Simple as that.
While Chase enjoys the first championship for a Wisconsin team in his lifetime, it’s nothing that John Litzenberger hasn’t seen before.
“We got married a day before their first championship, so I’ve been married 50 years, and we just moved into our new place the day of their second championship,” Litzenberger said.
And, he’s been watching the team try for another title ever since.
“The Milwaukee Braves won the World Series over the New York Yankees, and I was right here!”
It’s historic for Dean Moede, too. Back in 1957, he was in the street celebrating another Milwaukee team.
Decades later, he’s back with his wife and friends, celebrating the Bucks.
“Oh, I’m blessed,” Moede said. “I mean, to live that long and still have my mental capabilities to say, ‘Go Bucks go?’ Wow!”
“Giannis is amazing, and they made their shots.”
And for Josey Schoenherr, like many, it’s the first championship he and his family have even seen.
“Hopefully we’ll be back next year, but it’s good to be here,” Schoenherr said. “It’s great to see everyone in the city come together.”
He adds Thursday’s parade is certainly fitting for the win.
Fifty years ago, when the Milwaukee Bucks won their first title, there was no parade. So, while this might be the first, the hope is that it’s not the last.
Milwaukee police told FOX 11 about 300,000 people attended Thursday’s festivities.
