This Thursday, July 15th, PDPW plans to host a dairy robotics tour to learn more about how the technology is working in three separate dairies. The bus tour will start and end at Shawano Community High School and head to Horsens Homestead, Shawland Dairy, and Olson Dairy Farms, Inc. PDPW’s Shelly O’Leary explained how this is a chance for farmers to answer the question, “Will robotics work for my dairy or not?”
“Dairy is changing all the time and it can be very difficult to know how to keep up,” O’Leary said. “Before anybody wants to jump all in, they want to gather as many facts as they can.” She said that’s one of the main reasons they wanted to put this bus tour together.
She made it very clear that this program isn’t a sales pitch for a certain robotics company. This is more of an informational tour with honest questions and answers about the robotics systems like why each dairy decided to go that route or how it’s impacted their milk production. The tour is very transparent by sharing real-life data from each of the farms. “The tour attendees will have access to some of the stats from the farms,” O’Leary said. “Such as, What’s your average milking speed? How long is each cow in the robot? What did that do to somatic cell count?”
