GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Half of all Wisconsinites have had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, but experts say that’s not enough.
The state’s vaccination rate has plummeted in recent months. Dr. Robert Mead leads the COVID-19 incident command at Bellin Health, and he says he doesn’t understand why.
“There is all kinds of information on the safety and efficacy of the vaccine,” said Mead. “People are, somehow, just not interested in getting the vaccine.”
COVID-19 may be far less prominent than it was at its peak in November, but Mead anticipates that we will see another jump in COVID-19 infections later this summer as variant strains of the virus, such as the Delta variant, continue to spread.
“For those that are vaccinated, the pandemic is over. For those who aren’t vaccinated, they are at significant risk of getting the virus,” Mead told WTAQ. “You can get the vaccine, or you can get the disease. I guess you can have your choice on that.”
Coronavirus infections dropped significantly in Wisconsin following the Fourth of July weekend. The seven day average stands at 63.
