MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Improperly discarded fireworks led to a house fire that has displaced a Madison family this 4th of July weekend.
Fire officials say the blaze started just outside a home in the 4700 block of Star Spangled Trail and quickly spread to the structure. The family dog started barking at about 1:30 AM until the family woke up, just in time for them to escape out the back door.
Crews were able to get the fire under control but not before the flames did about $100,000 in damage to the home. The family is now displaced and being assisted by the American Red Cross.
