MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — Wisconsin Republicans are sending their budget to the desk of Democratic Governor Tony Evers, where it faces an uncertain future.
Brett Healy with the MacIver Institute is a fan of the plan, which he says contains a lot of tax breaks for Wisconsinites.
“Most Wisconsinites will see about $900 in income tax relief,” said Healy on WTAQ’s ‘The Morning News with Matt and Earl. “They also did a property tax cut.”
All-in-all the budget plan contains $3.4 billion in tax cuts. Healy hopes it will pass and implored the Governor to do so.
“If I were running the Governor’s re-election campaign next year, I’d want to run on this budget,” he told hosts Matt Z and Earl Brooker. “[But] he might veto the tax cut, or even the whole entire budget.”
Governor Evers has said he would like to see a middle class tax cut but has also implied he might veto the budget. Democrats are saying that higher income earners stand to benefit disproportionately from the tax cuts.
The governor can sign, reject or modify the budget with his veto authority after the full legislature votes on it. That could happen as soon as the week after next.
