MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin is very, very close to having 50% of its residents vaccinated against COVID-19.
The state Department of Health Services reported Friday that 2,880,827 (49.5% of the population) had received at least one dose and 2,623,899 (45.1%) had completed their vaccine series. A total of 5,433,176 doses had been administered.
The seven-day average of new confirmed cases fell slightly to 83, with 113 new confirmed cases being reported on Thursday. There was one confirmed death on Thursday, with the seven-day average remaining at one.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 612,048 confirmed cases and 7,235 deaths.
The seven-day average of percent positive by test was at .9% as of Thursday, the first time it had been under 1% since a test came back positive on March 10, 2020.
Also on Friday, hospitalizations and intensive care counts set pandemic lows. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 113 COVID-19 patients, eight fewer than on Thursday and 30 fewer than a week earlier. Of those, 38 were in intensive care, down seven in a day and 16 over the course of a week.
