The USDA plans to start handing out over $1 billion in payments within the next several weeks, starting Tuesday, June 15th. The money is specifically for farmers with approved applications for the Quality Loss Adjustment (QLA) Program and those who’ve already received payments through the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus (WHIP+). The programs give disaster assistance to producers who suffered losses in 2018 and 2019.
For each crop year, the maximum amount that a person or legal entity is allowed to receive under the QLA program, directly or indirectly, is $125,000. Payments made to joint operations won’t be over $125,000, multiplied by the number of people or legal entities that make up the farm’s ownership team. Farmers who applied for and received their first WHIP+ payment will most likely get their second payment for eligible crop losses very soon.
If you have any questions about program payments, please contact your local USDA Service Center.
