OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Just a few things people can get at the Oshkosh Farmers Market this summer.
The Winnebago County Health Department, along with the Oshkosh Area School District, is bringing the COVID-19 vaccines to the Oshkosh Farmers Market.
“It’s here and it’s more convenient,” said Courtney Van Auken, communications specialist with the Winnebago County Health Department.
Van Auken says Saturday, a number of people walked inside the Time Community Theater to get their vaccine.
“As far as it being sanitary, it being clean, it being safe, it is exactly like going to your local doctor’s office, there are nurses in there,” said Van Auken.
The clinic offers Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson and a limited supply of the Moderna vaccine. The staff will also help set up a second dose at a location near you.
“It really opens it up to everybody, so we can reach a lot of people, the farmer’s market is really popular in Oshkosh, we want to bring it to people,” said Van Auken.
“The Oshkosh Area School District recently received about $100,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services as part of their covid-19 vaccination outreach initiative,” said one school district manager for the grant, Yessra Sankari.
Sankari says the money helps organize and carry out various vaccination clinics, like the one at the farmers market.
“We’re having these lesions reach out to these families and they are going to talk to them and have them come to these clinics that we have so they can get their vaccination if they want to get it,” said Sankari.
Van Auken says Winnebago County still wants to reach the state’s 80% goal.
“Just over 46% vaccinated. So, we still have some work to do, we still have some push to make,” said Van Auken.
The COVID-19 vaccine booth will be at the farmers market every Saturday through August to offer more information about the vaccine.
But it will only administer the vaccine again on June 19th, and July 10th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
