GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — There was a collective sigh of relief at the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitor’s Bureau when the Green Bay Packers announced that full capacity will return to Lambeau Field for the summer and fall.
CVB CEO Brad Toll says that in many ways it signals an end to a long nightmare that began in March of 2020, when things shut down so fast that there wasn’t time to prepare.
“We had the WIAA [state basketball tournament] that had just come in,” said Toll. “So we were a pretty much full capacity and we went from that to nothing in 24 hours.”
Area businesses, Toll says, have been resilient in the face of hardship.
“If you’re a restaurant and the ‘Safer-at-Home’ order came out you were pretty much shut down,” Toll said. “A lot of us talked about working virtually, but with a restaurant that doesn’t work.”
The Packers returning means a boon for local restaurants, hotels, and more.
“It’s certainly news that is worthy of a celebration,” Toll told WTAQ.
Packers games alone generate an estimated $15 million per game directly and indirectly in Brown County.
