MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A large crane built in Manitowoc left port Sunday morning en route to the east coast.
Konecranes #38 left Manitowoc Port at approximately 9:30 a.m. Sunday to be put into service with the U.S. Navy on the east coast to handle up to 140-ton loads.
The crane was designed and assembled by Konecranes with components constructed by Broadwind Heavy Fabrications.
A month ago on April 29, Governor Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation held a press conference at Broadwind Heavy Fabrications to mark the completion of the crane.
The building of the crane was supported by a WisDOT Harbor Assistance Program fund worth $3.5 million, which helps harbor communities improve and maintain port infrastructure.
