GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Green Bay Police participated in an Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer inclusiveness training session earlier this week.
Police Commander Kevin Warych says the officers got a run down on issues facing LGBTQ people and how police should interact with the community. It included a section about personal pronoun use for transgender people.
“Now, if you would’ve asked me 19 years ago, when I started up, what a person’s pronouns were, I would not be able to answer that question,” said Warych. “I’d be able to answer that question in 2021.”
It was put on by Dr. Stacie Christian of the UW-Green Bay Pride Center.
“It’s part of our ongoing effort to be inclusive as a department,” Warych told WTAQ. “June is Pride Month, and so we are having initiatives to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ community.”
Police went through a similar training last year. City staff were allowed to sit in on the training as well.
