FREMONT, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Fremont-Wolf River firefighters found a unique way to save taxpayers money on Sunday morning.
They had a drive-thru pancake breakfast.
Between Sunday’s event and another fundraiser the department holds every January, the fire chief says the department raised about $220,000.
The money is used to buy equipment and vehicles, so the department doesn’t have to include it in its budget.
“We were able to buy a boat, a pickup truck, a Jeep, a UTV, and extrication equipment. We’ve got a training center in the back of the building that was completely funded by the fundraisers the firemen do to raise money,” says Shorty Miller, the Fremont-Wolf River fire chief.
He adds the event usually serves about 350 to 400 people.
