GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — They’re looking into the future in Green Bay’s Broadway District.
On Broadway, the group promoting the district, looked to the future during a Tuesday meeting in which they laid out the goals for the area.
One major change coming soon: public art.
“We recognize public art is an incredibly valuable revitalization tool,” Brian Johnson, the group’s executive director, told WTAQ. “So we made a commitment to invest $100,000 in public art this year.”
They’re also planning to establish an artist residency and lay the groundwork for a Mural and Busker festival to celebrate street art and street performance.
The area has seen significant growth in urban density as more housing has become available.
“We set a goal a couple years ago to introduce 200 new units in our downtown area,” Johnson said. “With an anticipated development agreement coming next month we will have constructed 575 units.”
Business, too, is flourishing, even with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’ve actually had more businesses open than close during the pandemic,” said Johnson. “We’ve seen a rise in entrepreneurship growth and micro businesses across the state.”
The annual Fourth-of-July fireworks show, Fire Over the Fox, Johnson said, likely will happen this year, although many of the events surrounding it may not.
