GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The City of Green Bay has been granted an extra month to respond to a complaint filed with the Wisconsin Elections Commission about how the city conducted the November 2020 election.
Green Bay will now have until May 25th to respond to the complaint filed earlier this month by five city residents, including the chairperson of the Republican Party of Brown County.
Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich, current City Clerk Celestine Jeffries – who was Genrich’s chief of staff during the election, former City Clerk Kris Teske, and Wisconsin Elections Commission Administrator Meagan Wolfe are the respondents to the complaint.
A letter granting the extension posted to the WEC’s website says three of the respondents asked for the extension. It also says the Wisconsin Elections Commission is in the process of retaining outside counsel for the complaint.
The complainants will now have until June 8th to file a written response to the respondents’ response.
The complaint alleges state and federal laws were violated when the city accepted a $1.6 million grant from Center for Tech and Civic Life and the conditions that came with the money. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife supplied the money for the grants.
The city has maintained it did nothing illegal during the election and it released a 19-page internal report last week, summarizing how it carried out the election.
Next week, the city council is expected to vote on a resolution to support how the city carried out the election.
