GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – There’s a warning to check big bills in and around Green Bay.
Green Bay Police Commander Kevin Warych says someone has been passing off counterfeit money.
“What we are seeing is $100 dollar bills and $20 dollar bills and so if someone hands you a $100 dollar bill, make sure you know what the security tips are.”
He says those can be found online.
Warych says he has not seen this exact type of bill before.
“We usually see the Chinese symbols or in big letters, it says “For Motion Picture Use Only,” but these new bills have a real fine print.”
The bills look real enough, but have ‘replica’ printed on them near the bottom.
“If people don’t know that the print exists they won’t look for it.”
Green Bay police say they’ve gotten a few reports of the bills being found at local stores.
He says anyone who comes across one, should report it.
