MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – The first conviction that came from results of the testing of sexual assault kits originated in Waupaca County.
The state DOJ is seeing results from testing thousands of untested sexual assault kits.
Leroy Whittenberger was convicted by a Waupaca County jury on Wednesday.
He was convicted of three counts of second-degree sexual assault.
Attorney General Josh Kaul says justice has finally been served.
According to a criminal complaint filed in April 2018, Whittenberger assaulted a 17-year-old girl in New London in 2012. The girl’s sexual assault kit was tested in 2017. The testing enabled analysts to match the offender’s DNA to Whittenberger.
