GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Green Bay Police officers put down their handcuffs and guns and picked up hammers and nails as they partnered with Habitat for Humanity to help build a home Wednesday.
The home is for a deserving family on Debra Lane. In the past, officers had helped with home repairs, but this is the first time building.
Lt. Steve Mahoney with Green Bay police says the department wanted to do a project that would enhance the community.
In the past, officers helped with home repairs but this is the first time they are working to build a home by capping the foundation and building the sub-floor.
“It’s an awesome experience to partner with the citizens of Green Bay to give back to our community, various businesses have helped out by supplying us lunch so it’s just a good time working together with the community to make it a better place for people to live,” Mahoney said.
Officials say they hope to have the home complete and ready for the family within the next three months.
