OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – A Menasha father whose baby died in a fire while he was asleep was convicted of neglecting a child causing death.
Vernon Williams pleaded no contest to the charge Thursday in court.
According to the criminal complaint, Williams was sleeping when a 3-year-old found a lighter and started a blanket on fire.
A 5-year-old girl was able to get the 3-year-old out of the house but said she could not carry the baby.
Police say Williams was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
