GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man who helps keep the gears turning at the Green Bay Police Department is being honored.
Head mechanic, Dean Simon, will receive the Rotary Club of Green Bay’s “Community Service Award” Monday.
For nearly 30 years, Simon has played a vital role in managing the fleet at the department.
He oversees 43 marked squad cars, 39 unmarked squads, and 31 specialty vehicles like the SWAT vehicle, Dive Truck, Zodiac Boats and multi-terrain vehicles.
If not for Simon’s organizational, multi-tasking, and overall management of the fleet, the department says officers’ would not have the cars and equipment to do their jobs.
“He is the mechanic you would want in your garage,” said Operations Lieutenant Brad Strouf. “His knowledge, skills and abilities are demonstrated daily to keep this fleet operational.”
The award presentation will be around noon at the KI Convention Center.
