SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ) – Deer Camp Bar on County Road K in Shawano is a total loss after an early morning fire.
Shawano Fire crews arrived on the scene just after 5:00 a.m.
“When we arrived on scene there was heavy smoke coming out of the building,” Assistant Fire Chief Chuck Felts said.
Crews had to change their approach to battle the blaze.
“We made entry and due to the conditions inside, we transferred from an offensive attack to a defensive attack.”
Felts says that means they had to battle the blaze from the outside to keep the firefighters safe.
In the process, firefighters had to travel to get more water and used an aerial truck to put out the flames.
The first floor was a restaurant and tavern. The second floor was an apartment. Shawano Fire says nobody was inside or injured from the fire.
Crews were on scene four hours putting out hotspots.
The cause remains under investigation.
The location was originally Plesheks Pavilion and eventually became The Hunter Haus before it became Deer Camp Bar.
It was a local hangout location for hunters in the area.
