GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Wisconsin is launching a new Adopt a School Program to find more mentors for students.
“Ultimately our goal is to bring the community together and bring up strong-minded children as a team,” said Executive Director Katie Hess.
She tells FOX through the program local companies will be teamed up with area schools, and their staff will have the opportunity to provide one on one mentoring to students.
“The beauty of this program is in its simplicity. Companies have an easier time fitting mentoring in their day when schools are in close proximity and they can provide a more purposeful impact on students.”
Associated Bank was the first company to step up and participate in the program, they also presented Fort Howard Elementary School with a $10,000 check.
“When they mentioned the program the first thing I said was can we adopt Fort Howard. We know it’s in an area that’s a high need and the students can benefit from the mentoring programs Big Brothers Big Sisters has and we want our staff to be apart of it,” said Denis Hogan from Associated Bank.
“Especially because of the benefits students have already experienced through a current mentoring program at the school,” said Hogan.
“I think just having something to look forward to just adds to their life,” said DeAnn Lehman the principal at Fort Howard. “We all know it’s good to have someone that’s not always family that cares about you.”
