TOWN OF GRANT, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Shawano County confirms four people were injured and flown to local hospitals after a building on Verg Road blew up.
Crews were called to a home explosion north of Marion and west of Caroline around 4 p.m. Monday.
One witness in the nearby community of Caroline says they heard the explosion from more than a mile away.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s office hasn’t identified any of the four victims, but a witness tells FOX 11 one is the property owner, and all four are men.
We’re told three of those were flown to a Madison hospital with severe burns.
“It’s a fire scene, there’s a lot of damage to the house,” Shawano County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sergeant Gordon Kowaleski explained.
Kowaleski tells FOX 11 it could be a while before they know what caused the explosion.
“These things take time and, from doing this job for numerous years, it could be weeks or months before we really got an answer,”
A witness also tells FOX 11 it appears all four of the injured men know each other.
Kowaleski says they don’t know if they’re all related.
“I’d like to answer a lot more questions and tell you all what happened, but I just don’t have that information right now.”
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office says the state fire marshal has been called in to investigate.
