FOX CROSSING, WI (WTAQ) – Fox Crossing Police are trying to find the owners of chickens that were left behind.
Police say a caller noticed a box of eight chickens left in a driveway on Irish Road Wednesday morning.
“It looks like they were dropped off in some sort of cardboard box container,” said Fox Crossing Police Officer Dan Wiechman.
He says they are investigating where the chickens came from, but charges could be filed if the chickens were intentionally left behind.
“It fits into the animal cruelty or animal neglect category and we will investigate that to see if it is something that can be criminally charged.”
He added that people that decide that they are not able to care for an animal anymore have other options available to them.
“I am a little disheartened to hear that this is the solution that somebody who did not want them came up with.”
He says they have found a temporary place for the chickens to stay.
“A possible number of scenarios could play out from falling off the back of a truck to being left there intentionally.”
Charges could be filed if the chickens were intentionally left behind.
