TUSTIN, WI (WTAQ- WLUK) – What was once a regular spot for some local residents is now a demolished building.
Fire crews were called to the Pony Creek Pub in Tustin at around 10:20 p.m. Sunday. A woman who lives next door was evacuated.
“My husband and I were laying in bed and all of the sudden we heard loud banging noises and we looked out our window and saw that the bar was completely engulfed in flames,” said Mariah Woiak.
Poy Sippi firefighters, along with those from other area departments, worked to put out the fire. Woiak says the entire street in front of the pub and her home was filled with fire trucks. But it wasn’t just emergency crews at the scene.
“About everyone that lives in this town was out here,” Woiak said. “We are a really close-knit community and we were all out here together last night.”
The pub was a popular spot for people in Tustin. Krystle LeNoble says she walked through its doors one to two times a week. Now, it’s blocked off by tape.
“A lot of memories,” she said. “A lot of memories in that place.”
LeNoble has lived in Tustin all of her life, making this morning a little different than most.
“Considering that the building is over 100 years old it’s heartbreaking. It’s one of the very few buildings in town that’s original,” LeNoble said.
The Poy Sippi Fire Department says there was no one in the building at the time of the fire — a fire that had the community on alert, making sure their neighbors were okay.
“It’s kind of like a family, this town,” LeNoble said.
Firefighters are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
