GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The new secretary and CEO for the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation made her way to Green Bay Wednesday.
Missy Hughes is touring the state this week, to highlight some of the economic growth efforts happening across Wisconsin.
Just a few weeks on the job, Hughes tells FOX 11 she’s getting familiar with some of the many new developments happening around the Green Bay area.
“I’m seeing an incredible amount of collaboration from the private side and the private sector. I’ve been to the Stem Innovation Center, this morning I was at TitleTown Tech and now the Railyard, it’s just nice to see how everyone is coming together to revitalize Green Bay.”
Secretary Hughes said she hopes to implement what she has seen in Northeast Wisconsin, in other parts of the state.
“My role at WEDC is to build a bridge between the public and private and make sure there’s a good liaison, communication, and creativity to make these projects happen. I am just so impressed with what’s happening here. I knew the Packers were here and Titletown, but there is so much going on and I can’t wait to come back and see more.”
Base Companies President and CEO Paul Belschner tells FOX 11 much of Green Bay’s development, especially in Rail Yard Innovation District wouldn’t be possible without WEDC funding.
“We’ve utilized grants, historic tax credits. Since 2014 we’ve been able to fill up to 200,000 square feet of these historic renovated buildings, so we are very proud of it.”
Base Companies has been working on the Rail Yard project for the last five years, and Belschner said the work being seen now is just the beginning.
“You’ll see some additional projects taking place in 2020 that will add some additional office space and residential space.”
Hughes will continue her tour of the state’s economic success stories today.
