TWO RIVERS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The family of a man killed in an officer-involved shooting in Two Rivers is asking why he was shot.
The mother of 31-year old Nash Fiske claims he was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over Monday night along Washington Street. Reports show an officer opened fire on an individual in that car, and that a gun was found at the scene.
Fiske’s mother, Bernadette Fiske Vanidestine, hopes the traffic stop isn’t how people remember her son. She recalls Fiske as a loving son, who loved his friends, family, and his daughter. The mother of his daughter, Star Styer, says he would do anything for their daughter.
Styer argues “he wouldn’t try to hurt anyone, he wouldn’t try to kill anyone, he’s made mistakes but there’s no violence on his record. He was a wonderful person, it’s just, a cop over-reacted and this is what happened.”
The Department of Justice and Two Rivers Police Department have not commented on Fiske.
Fiske’s criminal record includes multiple drug possession and bail jumping charges, but his family says he wasn’t a violent person. Life-saving measures were taken after the shooting took place, but he died after being taken to a hospital.
The Department of Justice will likely keep all details of the investigation confidential until a final report is released.
