GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – An area shoe drive collected 419 pairs of kicks for students in Green Bay and Shawano schools.
Rachel Bleser organized the drive, aiming to bring in 500 pairs. She says while the goal wasn’t met, she’s still happy to help make a difference in the community.
“So my favorite part was just seeing everybody come together. I had area businesses contacting me, individuals volunteering, we had 10 individuals who sorted through 419 pairs of shoes and cleaned them up. It was a lot of fun to serve alongside of the community and we’re going to keep doing this year after year,” Bleser says.
The shoe drive started when Bleser said she noticed an old pair of shoes had been swapped for a new pair at an area store.
Area schools are expressing their gratitude for the donations.
Howe Elementary School Principal Amy Kallioinen says “I think it’s amazing that you see that we have such a generous community that really care about the kids that we serve and that our parents are able to have one more barrier, or one more worry reduced and that kids can come to school and have the right kind of shoes.”
