MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The State Attorney General’s office is asking for more time to file a response to Steven Avery’s latest appeal.
The state’s reply brief is due Wednesday, but court records show Assistant Attorney General Lisa Kumfer filed a motion for an extension with the court on Tuesday. There was no immediate indication of whether the court would grant the request.
Avery’s latest appeal filed last month raises ten different issues in a series of decisions made by Sheboygan County Judge Angela Sutkiewicz. No hearings have been scheduled.
Avery’s nephew Brendan Dassey has also seen all appeals denied. Dassey requested a pardon from the governor, but there has been ruling on that end either.
Avery and Dassey were sentenced to life in prison for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach.
