FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – One of two men who went missing after being thrown from their canoe Monday night has reportedly been located.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office reports an adult male matching the description of one of the victims was pulled from the lake by members of the department’s dive team late Wednesday afternoon. The Medical Examiner’s Office is now working with family members to confirm the identity of the victim. Confirmation will be released at a later time.
The search for the second victim was suspended Wednesday night, again due to continued strong winds, below freezing temperatures, and turbulent waters in the area. Teams from both the sheriff’s office and DNR will resume the search in the morning.
21-year-olds Dakota Goldapske and Michael Ghode reportedly capsized their canoe Monday night in dangerous conditions.
A GoFundMe spokesperson says family and friends have started two fundraisers to help pay for funeral expenses for Gohde and Goldapske.
