GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — For many religious leaders, church is about personal connection.
“We need to connect and to be with one another especially when it comes to our spiritual life. We need to connect with God and connect with one another,” Catholic Diocese of Green Bay Bishop David Ricken said.
“So much about church is about personal connection and relationship. And so we’ve had to find new ways to do that,” Union Congregational United Church of Christ Senior Pastor Rev. Bridget Flad Daniels said.
One of those new ways is virtual worship.
The Union Congregational United Church of Christ has been virtual since the pandemic’s start and plans to stay that way for Easter.
“We’re fourth and goal. We’re this close to the endzone and it would be tragic to be the source of an outbreak now,” Rev. Flad Daniels said.
The Catholic Diocese of Green Bay reopened its churches in June, with social distancing and sanitation measures in place.
“It’s taking people time to gain the confidence to return, and it’s so beautiful to see people doing that now,” Bishop Ricken said.
Bishop Ricken expects to continue virtual masses in addition to in-person.
If you choose to attend Easter mass in-person, he adds they’re adding additional masses to give people a chance to space out.
“This still will be safely distanced, physically distanced according to the requirements so people can feel safe. We still wear masks,” Bishop Ricken said.
He’s hoping to help people connect, whether in-person or on the computer.
“That’s what we’re all about. That’s the deepest need inside the soul that people have. To be connected to God, and to a loving family, and a loving expression of the faith,” Bishop Ricken said.
