SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The parents of one of the teens killed in a 2014 Shawano County crash were awarded monetary judgment in a civil wrongful death lawsuit filed against the driver.
Online court records show the parents of Cody Borsche were awarded $500,862.61.
They filed the suit in 2017 against driver, Ryan Swadner, his mother, Shannon Broder, and stepfather, Robert Broder.
Swadner was sentenced to 15 years in prison last year for the crash that killed all three of his passengers: 15-year-old Paige Brunette, 17-year-old Cody Borsche and 18-year-old Tyler Welch.
Prosecutors say Swadner was on his way to a drug deal when he crashed his vehicle on State Highway 22 in Belle Plaine. They say Swadner had marijuana in his system.
The lawsuit claimed Swadner’s actions were negligent and sought unspecified damages.
The suit also maintained Robert Broder sponsored Swadner’s driver’s license and is therefore liable for any damages caused by Swadner’s negligent operation of a vehicle.
