GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – One of the state’s largest utilities are celebrating a first-time national award. But WPS says its customers are the big winners.
The ‘Reliability One Award’ means Wisconsin Public Service has been recognized as being among the best in the nation for electric reliability for a midsize utility. WPS Spokesman Matt Cullen says it’s a testament to the employees.
“They work hard every day in every type of weather to make sure that our customers have the energy that they depend on.”
Cullen talks about how the award is earned and the template that’s used.
“They’re based on system reliability statistics that measure the frequency as well as the duration of outages that customers experience.”
Cullen adds that while the award is a sign of great customer service, the recognition is a source of pride.
“It definitely is a prestigious award that does showcase those utilities that do provide outstanding reliability to their customers.”
Moving forward, a major project underway now will upgrade over 2 thousand miles of electric lines in heavily forested, rural areas. WPS serves more than 445 thousand customers across northeast and north-central Wisconsin.
