OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) — An officer involved shooting sent Oshkosh West High School into chaos Tuesday after a student stabbed a school resource officer who then fired at the student, and we’re learning more about how students reacted.
In that chaos several students made a break for it, running away from the school. Pastor John Seelman of Immanuel Lutheran Church saw it.
“There were students running across the street every which direction,” Seelman said. “We didn’t know what was going on exactly.”
Several students sought refuse in that church and at a nearby mosque.
“One of the girls was brave enough to bring a bunch of students with her as the initial thing was unfolding,” Hashim Mumtaz, who attends Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Mosque, told WTAQ. “She brought them into the mosque because she knew the code. There were about 20 or 30 students here.”
Those students apparently held up in the basement during the incident. Both the student and the officer involved remain at an area hospital, their injuries are not expected to be life threatening.
