GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Green Bay Packers Foundation hit a milestone.
During Wednesday’s luncheon at Lambeau Field, organizations from around Wisconsin received grant money from the foundation.
Green Bay Packers Foundation chairman, Tom Cardella, says it’s a historic year for the foundation.
“This year, today, we have 192 organizations from around the state that will be receiving $1 million in total grant money. The foundation was actually formed in 1986. The first year that the foundation did grant disbursements, we gave out $45,000 to eight organizations, so we’re pretty pleased that we’re at 192 and $1 million this year.”

Among the grant recipients was Green Bay’s The Farmory.
The sustainable, indoor agriculture facility says it will use its $6,000 grant money to expand its fish hatchery program and develop field trip kits for students in grades K-12. The grant will also allow The Farmory to provide internships, apprenticeships, and job shadow opportunities.
“Without support from the Green Bay Packers Foundation, and all of our community partners, we would not be where we are today. Eventually, we are going to be a fully self-sufficient social enterprise with the sales of our products but for now, in our startup years, we absolutely need support from the community,” said The Farmory executive director, Claire Thompson.
This year’s grant cycle focused on organizations that will use the funds toward animal welfare, environmental, health and wellness issues including drug/alcohol and domestic violence.
Next year’s grants will focus on areas of elderly, homelessness, human services, and hunger causes.
