FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – A man was arrested, suspected of starting a fire inside a vacant home in Fond du Lac.
Firefighters say witnesses who saw the blaze on Allen St. called it in just before 2:30 p.m. Monday.
The fire at the tri-level home was quickly extinguished.
Witnesses also told officials, a man was seen leaving the home after the fire began.
Police later found the person a block from the scene.
“Thanks to quick thinking witnesses who called 911 the fire did not extend into the structure and the person who investigators believe to have started the fire is in custody” said Fond du Lac Fire Chief Peter O’Leary.
The city of Fond du Lac Chief Building Inspector was called to the scene and posted the home uninhabitable. The gas and electric utilities had been turned off.
No injuries were reported.
